This summer in the studio, I fell back in love with creating. Two weeks after finishing my first year of grad school at ETSU, I headed to Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts for a six-week work-study. I took workshops in surface design, mosaics, and garment construction. I collaged, stitched, broke tile, followed a sewing pattern for the first time, and even made my own plus-size clothes.
After such an intense year in my MFA program, I was looking for a studio reset this summer. I wanted to make things simply because I wanted to. I come from a background in art education and painting, but this summer reminded me I’m not just those things. I’m also a sculptor, a clothes maker, a printmaker, a designer, a sign maker, a collager, a crafter…
I’m proud of everything I cooked up in the studio this summer, and so incredibly grateful for my time spent expanding my practice at Arrowmont. ❤️🔥
