Recipes as Ritual

In my work, recipes are more than just a means to make food, they are a way to connect, to share stories, and to build community. Cooking has always been an extension of my practice, whether it’s preparing meals for fellow artists or sharing food as part of an exhibition. The flavors I grew up with become a way to invite others into my world.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to another kind of ‘recipe’ in the studio, one that blends archival prints with fabric. I’m experimenting with heirloom 'sarees' passed down from my mother and grandmother, layering personal history into my prints. These textiles carry the weight of memory, touch, and time, and incorporating them into my work feels like a continuation of the care and labor woven into them.

And, of course, no studio session is complete without a cup of Adrak Chai—strong, spiced ginger tea that keeps me grounded and energized.
